Review:
Palm Pre v. A CC1.4(510)
Palm WebOS 1.4.0
Config: Sprint 2.3
SmartRunner: v.0.9.9
Location: Southern California (Los Angeles/Orange County)
I used this app mostly for driving around SoCalif. Soon I will take it on a few runs and snowboard trips. Having reservation about the pre 's GPS capability since it uses cellular towers instead of real GPS. (NOTE: I tested the Palm Pre's GPS on the San Gabriel Mountains ' S-2. It failed miserably (!?) compared to the Garmin GPSMAP 76CSCS. :( The 2nd test of Palm Pre's GPS was in Joshua Tree National Park. Palm Pre's GPS does NOT work here at all.)
SmartRunner on PALM PRE
. (+) GUI is very responsive,
. (+) like the feature "Keep display on", especially when it resides on the Touchstone
. (-) works well
. (-) crashes from time to time, click "OK" return/continue, not bad.
. (-) dislike the static "Menu" bar, always taking up screen space
. (-) Speed's sub-label is still "km/h" despite the "Preferences" set to "mile". Unit displayed is correct in miles however. While comparing to my Accord's speedometer, the GPS (calculated) speed is always 3-5 miles below.
. (+) like the "Resume" button a lot, altho
. (-) leaving the app on surely eats up lot of the Palm Pre's battery. Good thing for the Touchstone or else I would have to remove the app due to battery issue.
. (-) Units displayed. Preferences should be clearly label 'imperial' or 'metric'. The only current setting is "mile". And weight is in "kg" (show its German/EZuropean root, a bit strange for USians. :-)
. (-) Sport's setting does not retain previous/last setting. It always resets to "running"
. (-) "Upload tracks" does not allow uploading all tracks. I had to highlight each track and individual upload every single one
WEBSITE:
. (+) impressed with the import feature. I imported several tracks recorded years ago on a Garmin. It works.
. (+) sync feature, I un/selected "My Sports", and saw it synced perfectly with my phone.
. (-) need more features to play with the tracks/routes
Wishes:
. user set interval : either by distance (meter/feet) or by time (minute/second). This is important since driving's waypoints are much different from hiking's waypoints. Right now, I have no idea how this is set.
. Edit route, cut route, merge route. I can always use a 3rd party. but why not here on SR? If ya want me to pay for premium services, show it.
Question: What is a default user? What features does a default user allow to use? I 'd like to know know prior to my "trial" period is over.
