Used this twice for skiing. Very interesting data. However, the first time, the Pre ran out of batteries, and the track was saved, but the summary is all at 0. The second time, it simply seem to stop recording data points (but the time still kept on ticking) after a few hundred meters.

With a little more polish, this is going to be a great app!

Hi,
some questions if I may:

what's your opinion of the Pre in general?
have you tried Smartrunner on this 'phone while running?
how was it's performance?

Thanks in advance.

I love my Pre. Haven't had any significant problems with it. Yes, I've tried smartrunner while running. Just got back from a run actually. Everything worked well. Sometimes opening the menus ans selecting different options is sluggish at times, but it's definitely usable.

I just used it with the music app running podrunner. What a great combination! I love the Palm Pre!! It gets better and better.

Anybody have any suggestions for accuracy? When I look at my track, it would appear that I was running from one side of the street to the other and onto people's lawns, down into the park etc. And the speed is very erratic. It was like it was tracking me on a friday night, coming home from the bar...

I heard someone suggest to turn on the VZNavigator, but don't accept the billing. The premise was just launching the app would engage the gps system more fully than without semi-starting vzNavigator.

But so far, I'm not very impressed with the gps itself.

Thoughts?

I have had the same problem that the first poster had. The first time I used the app on a walk, it stopped recording distance data after 2.2 miles. Last night it stopped after .2 miles, but the timer kept running. What can I do to remedy this and ensure the app keeps working? I like what I'm reading from everyone else, and I like the way the app works...but if I can't get it to work for me consistently and for an entire training session, then I'll have to look for another app. Please help!

The application works great most of the time. It seems GPS issues are common in most phones, and they tend to turn inaccurate on occasions. My main issue is with the altitude data. Everytime I use Smartrunner there will be periods of time when the altitude is tracking crazy figures like -7000000 m (seven million meters below sea-level!). It's probably a GPS thing, and not much to do by Smartrunner developers, however there should be some sort of check where you cannot go down like 100 meters in less than one minute, so that data does not get registered. Otherwise I can never see the proper profile of the route, as the graph needs so much room to represent the 7 million meters that the rest of the date (the correct data) just looks like a flat line.

Another alternative would be some sort of basic edition of data from the website, where you can clic on a curve that you think is wrong and just delete the data at that bit.

Thanks anyway for your work. To me, the app is pretty impressive.

I have an update on my experience. I worked with Verizon and Palm, and they both decided that since I couldn't get a GPS lock on my phone, there must be some problem with the hardware, so they shipped me a new phone since it was within a month of me purchasing it. I still couldn't get a GPS lock with the new phone, so they escalated me a few levels at Palm, and they had me download a version of WebOS Doctor for 1.4. After that, I still can only intermittently get a GPS lock on my phone...but I occasionally get one. With regard to SmartRunner, I have had good success with it since running the Doctor by opening VZ Navigator first and clicking "Decline" before I open SmartRunner. I suggest that you open SR just before you start stretching. That will give it time to find your location while you're more or less stationary. From what I can tell, you need to wait to see green GPS bars in the upper left corner of the app screen. If you get green bars and a blinking green dot, you're being tracked.

I just tried downloaded an used Smartrunner with Music (Remix)...both great programs. I've had the Pre since January, coming from a HTC Touch, windows mobile, phone. The Pre is awesome. I'm still having a hard time giving up my ipod touch though.

I've had my Pre since day one (6/6/09) and it keeps getting better. I use SmartRunner with my music re-mix app, my bluetooth Motorola stereo headset (AND sometimes I use and additional GPS sports app to double check times). I typically run a 5 mile route (slowly) and I've never had a problem with battery. I've even taken phone calls with all that stuff running and still no problems. Occasionally the menu button in SmartRunner is a bit sluggish but always works (much better since last update). I LOVE THE PRE & SmartRunner.

My only suggestions for the SR is that it give the option to track your run "per mile" and that it give an ave min/mile (until then I'll just do the math).
