I have gone jogging twice now with WebOS Smartrunner, and have found that it overstated both my speed and my distance by a considerable amount. Both times, I jogged right at 3.1 miles, but SmartRunner says I ran 3.8. I seem to be getting a decent GPS fix, with Google Services turned off. I love the SmartRunner interface, but this inaccuracy is rendering it useless. Anyone else having similar trouble?

My most recent track showed me walking about 2.5 miles in 22 minutes, for a speed of 6 miles an hour. But the speed graph under the map on the web site showed that my speed never exceeded 4 miles an hour (which makes more sense than 6 mph to me). It looks to me like distance calculations are off and that's throwing everything else off, making the app almost useless. Which is unfortunate. (My walk was actually closer to 1.07 miles, per MapQuest.)

I have been getting my 8 km run listed as 9km or slightly higher. Older versions understated the distance and had me running the same route as 7 to 7.5km. Is this a Palm GPS issue or a software issue. Both Smartrunner and WebOS have been updated since.

If you are on Verizon there are known GPS issues. Overall there are still some stability issues with Pre and pixi GPS that are related to how the chipset is managed by the carriers. On Precentral there is a forum post about how to activate standalone GPS functionality in the Palm devices. It's not easy, and requires some sophisticated software tools to implement, but the outcome is a very good GPS receiver in teh phone. I've doen the changes to my Pre plus and the performance is excellent.

The new update to the webOS app has helped find my location much better; however, I did a hike yesterday that should have been around 12-16 miles (as stated on a park map). Instead, the smartrunner app -- at about 9 miles -- jumped from 9 to 20! While the track is correct, the distance is not. Any ideas on what is causing this bug? (BTW, my carrier is Sprint.)

I downloaded the update last night and went for a 3.1 mile run today - same route that it has accurately recorded many times. But today it registered the distance as 20.2 miles!

What is going on?

I just made my first fun ... using my palm pre. Loved everything about this program except mileage accuracy.

I ran 2.6 miles ... it logged 3.39 .... 30% off. Anyone know if this is an anomaly or as good as it gets. Would like
to have program I am going to stick with .... this one or another. Is a fix coming?

I don't know if it makes a difference but my same ~4 mile route was 4.2 on Saturday and 3.8 today. The difference... On Saturday, I was holding my cell phone in my hand. Today I had my phone in a stroller cup holder. Do think the back and forth motion of my hand while walking could make up for the difference?? The route was identical.

I am relatively new to the forum, but have found it to be very useful.

I have just recently purchased a Palm Pre(running Web OS 1.4.1.1) from Verizon and downloaded the application. The application appears to be working much better now with GPS functionality once I updated to version 1.1.0. I am on Verizon and have had a lot of issues with obtaining a signal before this version. So with that issue fixed, I took it for a test drive...

What I found was that it appears to be inconsistant in reporting distance, speed, and possibly altitude. Using my wife's Garmin GPS, it reported the first half of the run as 2.25 mi while the application reported it as 2.9 mi. On the return leg, I had a total of 7.1 miles. So 2.9 miles up and 3.2 miles back. It is a straight road, with no bends in the road.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do with my Palms config to make it more accurate or if someone is looking into this issue from the application perspective.

Thanks,
Dave

I am having issues as well. My wife and sister went on a marked trail. At the 1 mile mark my sister's droid with "run keeper" had 1 mile indicated while my wife's Pre had 1.5 indicated with "smartrunner". The longer the walk went on, the more inaccurate the Pre with "smartrunner" became.... Also my wifes full battery charge was exhausted in just over 1 hour making it usless for my wife's 2 hour training walks.

The most recent update has caused my Sprint Pre to not be able to get a GPS location fix at all :(
